"It took us twelve days...to convince Kishore Da....to sing
this 'Qawwali'...but it was worth the wait!"....read this....!!!
Laxmikant ji...narrates an interesting anecdote about the Legendary Singer Kishore Kumar and the making of the song "Waada Tera Waada"....!!!
"To convince Kishore Da was always the big task....recollects Laxmikant ji...of the famous music director duo of Laxmikant- Pyarelal...as he narrates an interesting anecdote...about the Legendary Singer Kishore Kumar...and the making of the hit song "Waada Tera Waada"...This was in 1970..when Rajesh Khanna had shot to fame...and Kishore Kumar had become his screen voice..All the songs of Rajesh Khanna were then automatically sung by Kishore Da...And so..for this particular situation in the movie..We needed a "Qawwali" type of song...that was to be picturised on Rajesh Khanna...Dulal Guha ji...who was the Director of this film...had told us the situation about the song...so we had initially decided to compose one 'Mujraa' kind of composition...but he told us..that he wanted a different feel for the situation...where the 'hero' sings the song instead of it been picturised on a female artist...So we zeroed on this 'Qawwali' sort of composition...because..until then there was no "Qawwali" that was ever picturised on him...When it came to recording the song..Rajesh ji told us that he would prefer only Kishore Da's voice on him...to which even the Director agreed..Now we had to convince Kishore Da..so I went over to his place and presented him the tune..He liked it very much...but very quickly...he refused to sing it...I asked him the reason for his refusal...and he said to me "Arey bhai Loxmikantu...Is mein to bahut saare aalap aur raag-daari aa jaayegi re...Main bhala kaise gaa paaunga isko...Tum log ek kaam karna...Yeh gaana tum Rafi Sahab se gavaa lena..aur main doosra koi gana gaaunga!"..I was a bit disappointed by that...but then I..and Pyarebhai..composed it in such a way.. ..that it would suit the singing style of Kishore Da...so again I went to him...and said that you hear this now...and still if you feel..that it is not suited to your style then you can refuse..so he kept the cassette with him and as usual told me to contact later...Four days passed...A week passed...but there was no reply...After almost twelve days he gave me a call...and said he was prepared to sing...So we instantly arranged for all the musicians...and that song was recorded on that very same evening..."It took us twelve days, to convince Kishore Da..to sing this 'Qawwali'..but it was worth the wait!"..And all he did in those twelve days...was his pure homework!..And the way he caught the mood...and he performed it...everybody were awestruck by his amazing caliber and capacity and.."Waada Tera Waada"..became one of the most popular number that is sung by him..After that...he even sang one more song of the same format of music.."Haal Kya Hai"..from 'Anokhi Ada' and even that was very super hit...We can say that we were first to experiment a 'Qawwali' song on Kishore Da...and he took it to a great level all together by his godly gifted voice!"...That was Kishore Kumar's "khaasiyat"..to take any song to a different level all together...As even today...when we hear to some compositions...we miss him very much thinking of that 'Special Kishore Touch' that he would have gifted to the song and made it immortal...Songs came alive with his voice! They displayed so many shades from the emotions...that he would emote effortlessly...No wonder he still rules..and will always rule this music world! As there can never be any substitute or any replacement for Kishore Kumar...!!!
"Kishore Da...stood amidst the 'Chorus'...and the 'Microphone'....throughout the recording...and sang the whole song!"....read this...!!!
Rajesh Roshan...narrates an experience about the making of a song from the movie "Yaarana"...with the Legendary Singer Kishore Kumar...!!!
"The director of the film Rakesh Kumar...told me the situation that the song was to be picturised in an indoor stadium...with a crowd..of around 12,000 people and Amit ji..recalls Rajesh Roshan...as he narrates an experience about the making of the song..from "Yaarana"..with the Legendary Singer Kishore Kumar..."That song was a real challenge for me!..I had even arranged for a Chorus..of at least a hundred and fifty people for the song at..'Famous' recording studio at Tardeo...And it is such a place...that for recording...hardly one can think of accommodating a huge crowd of 150 chorus singers...I had also ordered around hundred microphones from all the other sources...and placed them at all different levels and places! The microphones were placed..even outside the studio room ...and even though some of the microphones were 'off'..still the chorus were standing there...they were supposed to get paid for it...So I said..place the microphones..we will see to it later...So many microphones were finally placed...that it had become a scene...and a subject of laughter for every person!...There was not a tiny space...for anyone to stand...and even breathe easily..When Kishore Da entered the studio..He was flabbergasted by seeing the sight of this heavy overcrowded studio-room..He could hardly understand what was going on! ..He then looked at me..and he understood the expression of my face that I was tense...and confused...As he had already heard to the tune earlier...so was well prepared in the mood for the song...and that Kishore Da...who would turn his car.. ..from the recording studio...just for the recording of my song ...That Kishore Da...Seeing me so tense.. ...straight away went ..and stood amidst the 'Chorus'..and the 'Microphone'..and said..."Kaun hai bhai yeh Kishore Kumar?..Main nahi jaanta ...Kishore Kumar koi hai hi nahi yahan pe...Hum saare milke gaayenge aaj...Chalo record karte hai!"...And I was shocked to see this reaction...It took us almost four hours...to get the recording right with the required effect of the chorus...But all this time..."Kishore Da stood amidst the 'Chorus'...and of the 'Microphone' throughout the recording...and sang the whole song!"...He sang it with such a focus...that I was amazed by this man's patience and talent!..That great song was "Saara Zamana Haseeno Ka Deewana"...and no wonder it became a chart-buster...and even today is recognized as one of the best numbers of Amit ji...He was real a god-send gift...and a blessing for any composer to work with...His absence leaves a permanent void...that can never ever be patched easily by anybody else!"...A permanent void indeed..as the composer says...because people like Kishore Kumar...are never born again and again...They are specially created...Only once in a lifetime..and that is the exact value of their existence..they stay special forever...!!!
Dear shuman chatterjee,
What I read today about your thesis on great KISHORE DA has opened my eyes to the one more greates BHAKT of Kishore Kumar. This was almost like a PHD thesis on the great gurudev Kishore Da where I read few details of him otherwise not available to us easily.
I will have to re read and re read again this thesis of yours to make me remember many details of the dearest sir Kishore Da. Kishore Da has many fans and I am also one of them but it looks like you have surpassed many of us and your devotion in the form of creating an encyclopdedia on his life and journey makes me feek that I have to do more to be called as his bhakt.
While you have crafted a dreamy journey of his life through a thesis on him, I myself have researched him and his style of singing so therefore I consider myself a top notch above other Kishore Kumar clone singers as not only I can copy him flawlessly but have mastered his art of singing that you can see in several songs of other singers I have picked up and sang them using MY CELL PHONE as a MIC.
I am just pasting my work which is in form of singing other singers song in his style , and I hope you will like it.
I think we both are two sides of same coin. while you have worshiped him through your written article, I have worshiped him by reseacrhing his style of singing and so that makes us both the Bhakts of gurudev.
I am so glad that you are on friends list and appreciate this privillage.
Thank you for providing us such a wonderful research on the great man called Kishore Da.
Dear Shuman Dada , Its great to see ur profound love for KishoreKumar , Yes has has been sent by God to show Man Woman the real meaning of Love and Love for Humanity den only we all wud be able to live life with Sanity
